Suicide Cleanup - Legalities & Risk
Aside from the emotional and financial impact of the event to family, neighbors and employees, there is a significant health risk by allowing infectious biohazards such as blood or bodily fluids to remain on site. A property owner must get a suicide or traumatic scene professionally remediated quickly to mitigate future health risks. Suicide Cleanup - Methodology
The BIOClean Team is certified as a Trauma Scene Waste Management Practitioner and licensed by the California Department of Public Health to disinfect, clean, remove and dispose of all biohazards that are present. The cleanup process usually is quite extensive and attention to detail is a must.
The BIOClean Team technicians are trained to look for the smallest element of biological remnants from top to bottom, including ceiling, walls, furniture, personal items, light fixtures, switches, electrical sockets and even behind blinds and doors. Any exposure is considered a potential source of infection and must be properly decontaminated and cleaned.
There are often more hazards present than an initial cursory glance would show. The BIOClean Team technicians are trained to identify, clean and decontaminate even the tiniest of areas.
For instance, a dime-sized spot on a carpet may mean a two to three-foot diameter blood stain seeped beneath the carpet pad and onto the subfloor or decking beneath. A splatter on the floor and on an otherwise clean door indicates that there will be splatter behind that door, as it may have been closed during the incident, and opened by EMS.
There will most likely be splatter on the trim, baseboards and perhaps even inside electrical sockets. A small droplet of blood on a bed-frame or dresser indicates there may be seepage inside drawers or under the bed. Every area is inspected carefully with trained eyes, special illuminators and chemical testing.
Aside from any blood or fluids being an infectious agent, any unfound biohazards start to cause an odor over time. The source must be found, disinfected, and then cleaned to be sure that the environment is safe, effectively remediated and ready for use.
